Love the smoky eye look, but always end looking less Kate Moss, more Kate Mess?
Us too.
If it's done well, there's no sultrier evening look, but done badly, you're left looking like you've done six rounds with Mike Tyson. Traumatised by too many evenings where our eye shadow's ended up halfway down our cheeks, we'd pretty much given up on the smoky look...
...until that is, Harrods gave us the chance to try out the Estée Lauder Smoky Eyes make-up set. And (**spoiler alert**) gave us the chance to let one of you lot try it too (impatient prize grabbers scroll to the bottom for the details of how to win your very own kit)!
A Pure Colour Eye Shadow Palette...
...a tube of Sumptuous Extreme Mascara...
...a tube of Double Wear Stay-in-Place Concealer...
...and last but not least, a Pure Colour Eyeliner in Blackened Black.
Given that each product retails at around £20, we think £32 for the kit is pretty bargainous!
We were also very happy to find that the kit came with a little card showing a pretty illustration of smoky eyed Nirvana, together with the link to a super easy to follow YouTube make-up tutorial. Now we really had no excuse to end up looking panda-esque...
Tutorial watched, we armed ourselves with our kits and our cameras, and got down to some serious blending...
And the results?
We loved them! We couldn't believe how easily we'd managed to get our smoke on and we particularly liked that the set allowed each of us to get our own unique look.
But don't take our word for it, judge for yourselves. Here are all three Mice rocking a bit of smoke...
HK Mouse
I added a set of Eyelure Naturalites False Eyelashes in 020 for a bit of extra drama (I love these lashes because they give you some lash oomph without getting too draggy). I've fallen hook line and sinker for the concealer which not only gives an uber-smooth blank canvas to work on but also kept my smoke in place all night (which after six hours of cocktails, dinner and dancing in 90% humidity is no mean feat...)
Middle Mouse
I went for a more natural take on smoky - I'd definitely wear this look during the day and I think it's even low key enough to wear into the office. The Palette includes five different shades ranging from an icy white through to a deep chocolate brown with some delicate, shimmery greys and taupes in between. I mainly used the shimmery grey here, but I like that if I wanted to amp my look up for after-work cocktails I could just add a bit more smoke using one of the darker shades.
Mini Mouse
I've also have some added lash volume courtesy of my out and out beauty obsession, my lash extensions!
Lashes aside, I find that the key to a good smoky eye is plenty of smudgy blacker than black liner. But finding a pencil that doesn't either leave an imprint on your eyelids straight after you line them, or magically disappears within the hour, is easier said than done. This kohl however, is the answer to all my eyeliner dreams - especially when used with the concealer, I got just the right amount of inky black smudge.
If you fancy getting your mitts on your very own Estée Lauder Smoky Eyes set you can snap one up at Harrods, either in store or online.
