What better combination than Burgers. cocktails and amazingly cool decor?! MEATmission ticks all the boxes pretty much as soon as you walk in! Located just off Hoxton square with huge neon signs reading 'MEAT' it's pretty easy to locate! You can smell the burger aroma as you soon as you push open the blacked out doors and are met the other side with bustle, music, a quirky backdrop and cool crowd.
MEATmission is sister to MEATliquor, MEATmarket and MEATwagon, and opened it's doors back in January after the immense sucess of its siblings. Either the sucessful launch is still in progress or this one looks like it's going to be just as popular.
You walk straight into the Downing Wallace Hall which is kept for walk ins only, but fear not this isn't another venue jumping on the 'no reservations' band wagon as just behind the bar The Sitting Room is located which is held for reservations. Great combo catering for the impulsive crowd just as much as the planners like myself!
The Downing Wallace Hall...
The Sitting Room...
The decor has been meticously designed to create a cool, downtown vibe and that is does. The decor is super-stylish: Oxblood wallpaper with an all over geometric black print, retro light fittings, a stained-glass ceiling in bright primary hues and light box wall art features throughout the restaurant and bar. The combined effect is impactful, chic, gritty and effortlessly cool.
Now onto the food...I went for the Dead Hippie Burger, (two mustard fried beef patties, minced onions, pickles and cheese) and my friend went for the cheese burger with a side of fries to share. All served up on an authentic diner tray with red and white checked paper, they looked so good, I forgot to take a picture! We were diving in before the thought had even crossed my mind! The verdict: SUPER DUPER YUM - the fries were crispy with just thr right saltiness and the burger was the perfect amount of pink, with lashings of delectable hippie sauce this is quite literally finger licking good...especially as you don't get any cutlery! The only negative I can report back was the lack of colslaw on the menu booooo hissssss!
Two cocktails, a bottle of wine, two burgers and fries to share came in at £53. Luxe fast food that's definitely worth the slightly higher than fast food price tag! A spot I'll be revisiting time and time again, I only wish they were open later than midnight as this would be the ideal weekend haunt to finish a boozy night off!
