The breakfast/lunch spot makes perfect use of the beautiful old pavilion within the ‘People’s Park’ and is located on the edge of the lakeside – top points for idyllic setting. You can easily while away the morning watching people leisurely rowing on the lake, I haven’t spotted any potential Olympic medal winners as yet but I’ll keep you posted!
Aside from the charming location, the real draw is the food - locally sourced ingredients from the likes of Ginger Pig Meats and Monmouth Coffees to name a few. Definitely not the kind of food you'd expect to find in a park café. I opted for a ‘Pavilion Breakfast’ which consisted of sausage, egg, toast, tomato, bacon, mushrooms and homemade YES homemade baked beans. This is not just a fry up, this is a Pavilion royal treatment fry up! No seriously, it was hands down the best fry up I have ever had the pleasure of scoffing.
A quick tip from me to you would be to drag yourself out of bed and turn up before noon. Due to popular demand this breakfast hot spot gets rammed early on and we all know there’s nothing worse than being turned away when you’re in dire need of a hangover-busting food fix! Once you’re in, it’s just a case of ordering at the till in the Pavilion, collecting your table number, finding a seat and waiting for your top notch grub to arrive! The vibe is relaxed with an orderly chaos edge – I wouldn’t have it any other way!
