Marni Mania

It seems like only five minutes ago that we were breathlessly counting down to the Mary Katrantzou for Topshop collection launch.  Back then, the Marni for H&M collaboration seemed like it was way off in the distant future.  But, three weeks on and the Marni for H&M launch is TOMORROW!

At 9am tomorrow morning, the first 280 (or 560 if you head to one of the larger London stores) shoppers in line outside the 260 stores worldwide stocking the line will get a time-banded bracelet allowing a ten minute slot to shop the collection (see our HK & London store directory below as well as links to worldwide stockist info).  We've lived a couple of H&M designer collaborations before, so take it from us, being one of those 280 (or 560) requires a seriously early arrival.  We're talking somewhere between midnight and 4am to get a proper look in.  Arrive any time after 6am and there's really not much point.

Too lazy/sane to be up in the middle of the night shivering on the street sandwiched between Marni-crazed shoppers?  Well if you're lucky enough to live in one of the countries that currently offers online shopping (sadly Hong Kongers, that's not us...) then log on to the H&M site at 9am tomorrow instead.  You'll be limited to one item though, so choose wisely.  Alternatively, you could take your chances and wait until after the dedicated, braceleted shoppers have picked over the collection and everyone else gets a go.  Remember also that there's always the returns.  In Hong Kong returns have to be made within three days of purchase and in London, within seven days.  I bagged myself a pair of Jimmy Choo for H&M studded flats in 2009 after hanging around the Hong Kong store in central three days after the launch.  See, miracles can happen.

Our other top tip is to know what it is that you're there to buy.  Caught up in the grabbing frenzy, its easy to get sucked into buying things you'll never wear and that don't fit.  Fine if your aim is to make a quick buck on Ebay but we say if you're serious about adding some Consuelo Castiglioni pieces to your wardrobe, know the line piece by piece, draw up a shopping list and stick to it.  The website catalogues everything in the collection, so log on and get planning.

The 3BM top picks?

For us the accessories are what we're really coveting.  Super affordable and guaranteed to fit, these will give any outfit the Marni edge.  Top of our list are these amazing chunky, colour-block bracelets:
£24.99 / HK$299

£24.99 / HK$299

£19.99 / HK$199

And these stunning, sculptural, floral necklaces:

£24.99 / HK$399

We'd also be very happy if we managed to get our mitts on this printed silk maxi - perfect for sipping cocktails at sunset on a beach somewhere exotic.

£79.99/ HK$1,290

And we love this colour-block silk top.  The mustard/magenta/peacock look so striking together (and featured strongly on the a/w 12 catwalks - got to love a trans-seasonal investment piece).  We also adore the oversized, contrast tie at the back.

£39.99 / HK$599

To get you even more Marni manic, take a look at this gorgeous short film directed by Sophia Coppola to advertise the collection.

Marni in Marrakech: palm trees, polka dots and pools - what more could you ask for?

Oh you still want more?  Ok.  How about Sophia Coppola modelling the collection?  And we'll throw in Freida Pinto, Drew Barrymore and Winona Ryder too...

So now all that stands between you and all the chunky heels, statement necklaces and quirky patterned loveliness that you can grab is several hours' queuing, a bloody battle with anyone foolish enough to get in your way once you get over the H&M threshold and a groaning credit card.

Well man up, its Marni.
